Many patients will need both a Breast Augmentation and a Breast Lift which can usually be safely accomplished. However, we explain to the patient that it is with some increased risk. This is because a breast augmentation is seeking to enlarge or stretch the breast where as a mastopexy or breast lift is seeking to tighten or lift the breast.
And so the two operations are somewhat at odds. They must be balanced in order to achieve the desired results but still maintain a healthy blood supply to the skin and nipple areola.
It's very important for patients to not be smokers. If someone has been a smoker, they should stop six weeks prior to surgery. Sometimes, rarely, we recommend that the breast augmentation be preformed first and that the patient return in the future for a breast lift.
