Anesthesia |TIVA | Sedation

TIVATIVA is total IV anesthesia. This type of anesthesia is used for patients that may need more than sedation, but do not require general anesthesia. At the Center for Surgical Excellence TIVA is always conducted by an anesthesiologist. Patients are comfortably sleeping but still maintain their ability to breath on their own. They do not recall any of the procedure and their pain is controlled by using various medications throughout the procedure. When they awake they are comfortable and ready to be discharged home within 45 minutes of the end of the procedure.

TIVA is a great alternative to having general anesthesia because you are not intubated and continue to breathe on your own, there is less nausea post procedure, and a quicker recovery period.  You will find you have no memory of procedure while still having complete pain control. It is overall a euphoric experience.

Below is a patient testimonial from having TIVA anesthesia:

"Hello, I came home, took a pain pill, went to bed. I woke up at 9:30 last night and got dressed to come in for my surgery. Couldn't figure out why I had a bandage on my hand. No pain at all. Can't remember anything after laying on the table..not even the ride home."
